| New webhosting, domain and design revamp! |
2010-05-06 09:28:02 |
|
Well I decided it was time to switch my web hosting company as my previous hosting, provided by MD Web Hosting Pty. Ltd, was not a pleasant experience (as a developer). So after doing a little homework I made the switch to WebFaction (a service of Swarma Limited) for my hosting and am happy now. With SFTP, SSH, Django, Pylons, Wordpress, .., .., .. you name it. Its wonderful.
One other thing, I havev registered and will now be referring to the site as www.thomaspongrac.com from this point on. With this said, I will continue to use www.twilightfantasy.org to redirect to this site as I have advertised that domain a lot.

Its that time of year again. After a very relaxed break and in addition being fortunate enough to be part of a ski trip in Japan I'm ready for some hardcore technical information to be copied to my brain.
A particular unit I'm looking forward to allows me to build my own project of my choice. I had many ideas, but my favorite being a SSL secured file transfer program, which is have titled Secure Dispatch. This proggy will be the next project I will be to release on twilight and the first release can be expected mid year.

| End of exams and end of starkong |

Haha. Well Starkong has been put on hold. The game engine is complete all that remains is game menu, game states and maps. Instead of implementing all of this I have steered away and started a new project, which is a little less complicated and more dynamic in design.
PROJECTILE WARFARE is the name of this wicked 2D retro style number. My sourceforge description below:
"A TBS (Turn-based strategy) of mounted turret warfare. Adjustable projection and speed of projectile, choice of map and position of turret. SSL over TCP network play functionality with variable AI and random map generation."
Influenced by old-school tank games. In particular one I used to love on mac.

| Starkong Returns! |

Nightdraw development has been put aside for now. The blending and copying from the frame buffer has resulted in drawing to the canvas to be only effective when the window has focus.
However, Starkong is back in development and I will be designing the game engine before the map editor this time. I would like to incorporate the editor into the main game executable. Nano-Tech is my artist designing most of textures and character design for the game.
Feeling excited about this one. The game has very good feel to it.

It felt like it was the time to learn something new. So I did. That thing was OpenGL. OpenGL isn't exactly new to me, but I hadn't really spent much time learning it properly. As a little project for myself I have been working on a drawing program designed to stream the brush stroke information over a network, so the drawing will take place real time at client and server.

No more drowsy days at TAFE! I have my software development diploma and have resigned from the loony bin (hwt nightshift). Yipppe! :> From these industries I have learned I would not be content with a career in either of these fields.
Now I am focused on my Deakin Uni course, IT (IT Security Major), and am very enthusiastic about learning about and gaining experience in this field.

| Blog: ONLINE |

|
Piece of cake! I now have my very own web journal to clutter with useless crap. :>
The implementation and UI of the blog is fairly similar to the archive. I intentionally designed it this way so the user has less to remember. If your lazy like myself, I'm sure you will appreciate it.
For now I am content with design of the site and am going to load it up with content and fix bugs that I discover.

| File Archive: ONLINE |

|
|
Right I was. The Front End to my file archive took me a long time implement. After successfully getting a single access functionality with regard to the Filter and Display options I wrapped a authentication system around it all for more useful fs like file permission behavior. The main idea behind this system to enable me to add files to the archive that I may need to reference from a remote location. I figure there will be some files I will not want to publish to the public, but all others are freely accessible.

| Archive Development Underway |

|
Six new MySQL entities and a heap of CGI and HTML later I will soon have a working implementation of my file archive. The administration side wont involve much work as I have already used most of the concepts in the project section. However, I am planning to make a powerful filtering tool to extract relevant files from the archive based on multiple variables and different display modes to output the data. I have a feeling this may take me a while to get right.

| Project Database: ONLINE |

|
After a couple of weeks hard work i have come up with a project (mysql) database with a web front end for administration and public sections. It takes into consideration most of the concepts of a software project.

TwilightFantasy.org has been redesigned for text-based browser support. I also have redesigned the site structure to a more conventional layout. I've used a lot of apache black magic, but it's a whole smegging lot easier to maintain now ;)
Site will be up and running with project db soonish!

| gluiX-0.9 - Ready for documenting |
2007-03-12 00:01:15 |
|
It's been a while since i've added news to my site and i've decided i'm going to update it regularly from now on!
For the past few months i've been working, on and off, on a project called gluiX. gluiX is the first library i've ever written and if i and others find it usefull i'll proberbly be motivated to continue updating the library for several future releases.
Well gluiX is a simple GUI for opengl based applications (particualarly games). I've included many functions and structures for the user to eaisly create there own custom 'Dialogs' by deriving there own class from the base class Dialog. Although the library is completed and appears to work i'm going to spend time not only thoroughly documenting the member functions and data types, but also writting severly practical code examples before the first beta release.
